Evanescence started in 1994 by Amy Lee and Ben Moody in Little Rock, Arkansas. While they started out making a few EP's the 90's and a demo album, Origin, in 2000, they were virtually unknown outside of the Little Rock area until their first "real" album, Fallen was released in 2003. Since then, they have recorded three more studio albums, an orchestral remake album, two live albums, and now an upcoming fifth album.
The current members are:
Amy Lee (vocals, piano, harp), Tim McCord (guitar, formerly bass), Troy McLawhorn (guitar), Emma Anzai (bass), and Will Hunt (drums).
Former members are: David Hodges (piano), Ben Moody (guitar), Will Boyd (bass), John Lecompt (guitar), Rocky Gray (drums), Terry Balsamo (guitar) and Jen Majura (guitar, theremin).
Evanescence has been my favorite band since I was 13. Their music helped me through some of the darkest points in my life and it was refreshing to find a band like them whose frontwoman was the weird kid growing up, just like me. I can talk about how they were trailblazers for women in rock and metal all day, sure, but for me Amy Lee is the face of weird girls who had a passion and stuck with it despite having every reason to walk away. She taught me to never betray who I am no matter what anyone says or does to try to shut me down. I wanted to create a dedicated space for this band not just because I'm a fan, but to serve as a reminder for myself that I should continue to pursue my dreams, no matter how far-fetched they seem to be.
